My Take on Life: Simple Pleasures

Some recent events I have been going through made me contemplate many things about life. It made me think about what is important. It made me question the path I'm on and what journey I should take. After so much debate going through my head, I have finally arrived at a definite answer... simple pleasures. The simple pleasures in life all depend on a person's perspective. For me, it is where you find happiness, love and peace for long term contentment.

I'd rather indulge in the simple pleasures of life than materialistic things. As a human being, it is normal to want to have things in life, and there is nothing wrong with that. It gives you a sense of fulfillment and temporary happiness, and it makes you realize the standard of living you want for yourself. I am not saying that I am not after some things, I certainly am. However, as I grow older, I realize that my true happiness and contentment does not lie in having things, but in so much more. I want inner peace, happiness, and love. And I truly believe that if I have these in my life, I will achieve the contentment I am craving.

Simple pleasures like taking a walk, watching the sunset, and having a bath are underrated and people don't think they carry much significance to living a life of contentment, but it all depends on how you see it.

Can we really have pure bliss by just having these simple pleasures?

At one point in my life, I never thought about contentment, happiness, nor peace in my life. I succumbed to the harsh realities of life that my outlook had become shallow. I always thought that material things can give you the happiness and satisfaction you desperately need, and I always thought that on-going stress is just a part of living; accept and deal with it.

It wasn't until recently that I realized what life should be and how it should be lived. I believe that adversities are teachers that can make or break you. There were times when I just wanted to give up. But certain situations made me stronger to be able to fight life head on. The rough journey I've had in my lifetime has given me the opportunity to get to know myself better. With everything I've been through; the struggles, the abuse, the disappointments, and the heartaches, I am lucky to survive it all and realize the importance of simple pleasures. Sometimes it is hard to see our time in this world as a blessing, especially when you are in the midst of facing its adversities.

So, I will end this reflection with a quote from a book called, 'Brushstrokes of a Gadfly' by E.A. Bucchuaneri,

"Sometimes, the simple things are more fun and meaningful than all the banquets in the world..."

We always strive to be what society wants us to be. We often avoid listening to our own intuition, and instead, try to achieve what we think society deems acceptable. The demand of daily living makes us forget that the simple pleasures in life are the blessings of time itself.

So, the next time you have your morning coffee, sit down by the window and focus on savoring that moment with every sip of bitter sweetness.
